The battle between Sony Pictures Television and CBS over the rights to hit game shows Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune continues on.
Sony has struck a number of multi-year streaming deals for the shows with Peacock, Hulu and Hulu on Disney+, which will allow these services to air both shows the day after their linear airing. It marks the first time that in-season syndicated episodes will be available on national streaming platforms and the deals also include access to library episodes of the shows.
Unsurprisingly, Paramount+ is not one of those streamers that Sony struck a deal with.

However, it’s understood that streaming rights are separate to the linear rights to the shows, meaning that Sony has the right to sell these shows to Peacock and Hulu, despite the court ruling.
The May 29 ruling that gave the distribution rights back to CBS until the legal battle with Sony was over followed a ruling on April 10 by L.A. Superior Court Judge Kevin C. Brazile, who said that Sony had the rights to terminate the distribution deals.
It’s a thorny issue that presumably will play out in the courts even further over the coming months.
The streaming deals will start with the launch of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune’s new seasons in syndication. Jeopardy!, which is hosted by Ken Jennings, is entering Season 42, while Wheel of Fortune, which is hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White, is entering Season 43.
Both shows are produced by Sony Pictures Television with Michael Davies serving as exec producer of Jeopardy! and Bellamie Blackstone exec producing Wheel of Fortune.
“We are thrilled to bring America’s favorite game shows to an even wider audience on Hulu, Hulu on Disney+, and Peacock,” said Keith Le Goy, Chairman of Sony Pictures Television. “Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune are two of the most successful game shows in television history and we look forward to giving fans the best possible streaming access to our shows this fall.”
